Annual
Photography Competition Rules
Revised October
2006

This annual competition is open to all members in good standing of the
Photographic Society of Chattanooga. |
 |
Entries must be received by a member of the Exhibitions and Contests
Committee on or before November PSC meeting |
 |
Each person may have three (3) entries per category (Prints, Slides, or
Digital) with maximum total of six (6) entries. |
 |
Each unique entry may only be entered one time (example: cannot enter
same image in digital or slide and again as a print). |
 |
Each person may only enter at 1 level of expertise (Beginner, Amateur, or
Advanced). |
 |
Entries must be labeled in one of the following manners: Beginner a, b
and c OR Amateur d, e and f OR Advanced g, h and i.

2006 judging expertise levels and categories are as follows:
Beginner (has been
photographing less than three (3) years and has never won a first place ribbon
in an annual contest.)

b. Slides
c. Digital |
Amateur (has been
photographing at least three (3) years and has never won a first place
ribbon in
an annual contest at the amateur level.)
d. Prints
e. Slides
f. Digital
Advanced (has been
photographing at least three years and has won at least one first place ribbon
in an annual contest or is a professional photographer — someone who makes
his/her living primarily as a photographer.)
g. Prints
h. Slides
i. Digital

Print entries must meet the following criteria to be accepted for
judging:
a.
Image size must be no smaller than 8” x 10” and no larger than 11” x 14”.
b.
Prints must be mounted on 11” x 14” white foam board
(mat overlay is optional but overall dimensions may not exceed 11” x
14”). No frames or glass.
c.
No markings may be visible on the front of the entry. The participant’s
name, phone number and category must be noted on the back.
d.
Source may be film or digital. |

Slide entries must meet the following criteria to be accepted for
judging:
a.
Must be mounted in 2x2 plastic or paper mounts suitable for projection.
b.
To mark the orientation of the slide, hold the slide, as you would
normally view it and place a dot in the lower left hand corner.
c.
The entrant’s name, phone number and category must appear on the slide
mount. |

Digital entries must meet the following criteria to be accepted
for judging:
a.
To insure the proper image size and quality for judging, the image file
size should be 100 kb minimum and 350 kb maximum.
b.
Each image must have the following maximum size:
Horizontal images will be no more
than 1024 pixels wide. Vertical
images will be no more than 768 pixels tall. (Unless
your image proportions are in the exact ratio of 4 to 3, one of these dimensions
will be less
than the maximum. The images will be projected as received, as long as not over
the maximum.) Smaller images are acceptable.
c. Save the file in jpeg format
to achieve a file no larger than 350Kb on a type of non-returnable media
(CD or disk).
d. Save the file using your first and last name, level of expertise, and
number of submission. (example: SallyJonesBegcl, c2, or c3 or DaveJonesAmfi
,f2,or f3). |

All items must be delivered in protective packaging. Every effort will be
made to handle entries with care but the PSC is not to be held responsible for
damage or theft while pieces are in the Committee’s possession. If you wish your
packaging returned with your entries, please mark with your name. If you will
not be able to pick up your entries at the December banquet, please make
arrangements with another PSC member do so for you. |

The judges will award 1st, 2nd and place as well as Honorable Mention(s)
in each category. The judges’ decision is final. |

All entries will be voted upon for Members’ Choice Award to be tallied at
the December banquet. |
 |
Winning entries will be scanned for display on the PSC website and
newsletter with the entrant’s permission. |
Please note that the PSC Board Directors reserves the right
to review the subject matter of all images before displaying to the general
membership. Images containing graphic content or nudity may be entered this
competition and will be judged but may not be displayed.
Quarterly Contest Rules

The Quarterly Contest is open to members in
good standing (current dues paid). |
 |
Slides, prints, and digital images will be
judged together as one competition. |
 |
A maximum of two entries can by submitted
be each member. |
 |
Prints must be at least 5x7 inches, mounted
(matting isoptional). The participant’s name must appear on the
back. |
 |
Slides must be marked with the
participant’s name on the back side. A registration
dot must be placed in the lower left corner of the
mount (Hold the right side of the slide to ward you
and place the dot in the lower left hand corner).
Slides are to be placed in the tray upside down with
the correct side facing you. This puts the dot where
it can be seen from the right hand side of the tray.
No glass slides allowed. |

Digital images must be in JPEG format,
saved to a CD, and must be brought to the January
or February PSC meeting – to give the digital
committee time to organize all digital submissions
for screen presentation on the night of the contest
in March. Save the file using first and last name
and the number of submission (#1 or #2). To insure
the proper image size and quality for judging, the
image file size should be 100 kb minimum and 350 kb
maximum. The required maximum horizontal dimension
is 1024 pixels and the maximum vertical dimension is
768 pixels. |

Slides, prints, or digital images which
have previously won prizes in an Annual Contest or
ribbons at quarterly competition cannot be entered
again. |
 |
The judge is not eligible to participate. |
 |
Quarterly Contests are independent of the
Annual Photo Competition held in December. Slides
and prints entered in the Quarterly Contests may be
entered in the annual competition. |
