Field trips are a great way for PSC members to get acquainted, to learn, to share photographic knowledge with others, and to visit some interesting places and events. Past PSC field trips have included many locations close to home such as Point Park, Coolidge Park, downtown night shoots, and the TN Valley Railroad Museum and numerous areas away from Chattanooga, such as Cumberland Island, Callaway Gardens, Nashville, Atlanta, and the Okefenokee Swamp, and once, all the way to Colorado.
Upcoming PSC field trips are listed below. You are invited to attend but do let the leader know you are planning to be there. |
February 25, 7:30 a.m. - Benton Falls
Meet at the Bi-Lo in Ooltewah at 7:30 a.m. The destination of this easy/moderate 3-mile roundtrip hike is Benton Falls (in the southern region of the Cherokee National Forest), a beautiful and unique 65 foot cascade over interesting tiers of rock. Except for the stone descent down to the base of the falls, the walk is fairly flat. The falls are quite beautiful and the gorge serene. There is a $3 day use fee per car. To sign up, send an email to Wendell Gordy
March 10, 7:30 a.m. - Frozen Head State Park
Leaving from the Bi-Lo Grocery in Ooltewah at 7:30 a.m. to travel to Wartburg, TN to Frozen Head State Park and Natural Area is situated in the beautiful Cumberland Mountains of eastern Tennessee. The park's lush vegetation, small streams, waterfalls and beautiful mountains make Frozen Head one of Tennessee's most scenic parks. Bring plenty of water, snacks, and a sack lunch. Dress comfortably and in layers. One should bring a variety of lens, a polarizer and a tripod. To sign up for this field trip, contact trip leader, Wendell Gordy
March 18, 7:30 a.m. - Shearing of Llamas and Alpacas at the Shaffer Farm
PSC has been invited by the Shaffer Family to photograph the shearing of Llamas and Alpacas belonging to them and to their neighbors. The shearer will arrive at 8:00 a.m. and will work through at least 12:00 noon. The group will leave from the Bi-Lo on Ooltewah-Ringgold Road (about a block off East Brainerd Road) at 1667 Ooltewah-Ringgold Road, Chattanooga, TN to travel to the farm located near Red Clay State Park.
