Youth Photography Showcase – Chattanooga Level
2008 Entry Rules
Any high school (grades 9-12) photographer living in the Chattanooga area may
enter up to 6 photographs. Each photograph must be placed in one of the
following five categories:
Photojournalism
Action or event shots taken as available
Also known as “grab shots”
Photojournalism shots are not posed
Human Interest
Must include at least one person
Should show interaction and/or emotion
Does not include sports action shots, which should be entered in the
photojournalism category - while the athlete is competing, it is considered to
be a photojournalism shot.
Athletes before or after an event may be included in the human interest
category.
Architecture
Must include a building or an element of a building
Landscape/Waterscape
Shots showing scenery – of land or water
Photographer’s Choice
Also known as anything goes
Photographs may be submitted directly by an individual high school student
and/or teacher or club advisor. The student’s high school must be identified.
Please note that the PSC Youth Photography Showcase Committee reserves the
right to review the subject matter of all images before displaying to the
general membership. Images containing graphic content or nudity may be entered
in this competition and will be judged but may not be displayed.
The Photographs
 | 1. All students must be in high school (grades 9-12) in the Chattanooga
area. |
 | 2. Only printed images accepted – black & white or color – no slides or
digital entries accepted except as prints. |
 | 3. All images must be the work of the student photographer, but printing
can be done commercially. |
 | 4. Each student may submit up to 6 photographs - 2 in Photographer’s
Choice category and 1 photo in each of the other 4 categories. |
 | 5. Entries may be no smaller than 5”x7” and no larger than 9”x12” and can
be either with or without borders. |
 | 6. All images must be titled. Untitled is not an acceptable title. |
 | 7. Submit each image in protective plastic, unmounted, unmatted, and with
a label on the back with name address, school, picture title, category, &
e-mail address. |
 | 8. Entry date is Saturday, April 12, 2008, at the East Ridge Community
Center on Tombras Avenue, from 9:00 -11:30 a.m. in person by student, teacher,
or parent. However, students are urged to be present. |
 | 9. Winners to be announced on Thursday, April 17, at the meeting of the
Photographic Society of Chattanooga, 7:00 PM, East Ridge Community Center.

 | 10. One winner from each category will be entered in the national Youth
Photography Showcase Competition, an event of the Photographic Society of
America (see http://www.psa-photo.org).

 | 12. Entries are free of charge. |
Photographs will be displayed at the meeting of the Photographic Society of
Chattanooga on Thursday, April 17, at the East Ridge Community Center, at 6:30
PM, and winners will be announced at 7:00 PM. Entries may be picked up that
evening after winners are announced - except for the 6 images that will be going
to the next level of competition at the Photographic Society of America.
